What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that is placed on, for example, your computer, tablet or smartphone when you visit a website. Information is stored in this file, which is recognised on subsequent visits. This makes it possible, for example, for you to remain logged in to a website or for your language settings to be remembered.
There are three types of cookies:
Cookies on this website
VluchtelingenWerk Nederland uses functional, analytical and tracking cookies. Functional cookies are used, amongst other things, to integrate social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook into our website. We use analytical cookies to improve the quality of our website. By analysing how visitors use our website and which links are clicked on most frequently, we can determine which parts of our website are of most interest to our visitors.
We also use cookies to check whether a page we think might be of interest to you is actually easy to find. For example, if you are looking for specific information on our website but cannot find it, we can see this in the statistics collected by the cookies. This helps us to understand how we can make the structure, navigation and content of our website more user-friendly.
We also regularly use cookies for A/B testing. These are tests in which we create two versions of a single page and see which one yields the best results. The data we store for this purpose is not linked to any personal data and is therefore anonymous.
The cookies we use for advertising via Google AdWords do allow us to view the demographic data of AdWords visitors, but this data cannot be traced back to any individual. We use what is known as a ‘third-party cookie’ for this purpose. Hier kun je meer lezen over deze cookies.
Finally, our Facebook tracking cookie keeps track of how often promotional content has been viewed and provides us with insights into the advertising campaign on Facebook. This prevents you from seeing the same advert too often. Advertisers and third parties may use these tracking cookies to create a visitor profile. Would you like to know more about the use of Facebook’s tracking cookies? You can read more about this on the Facebook website.
How do you delete cookies?
It is possible to delete cookies. How you do this depends on the web browser you use to view web pages. Well-known web browsers include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. You can also configure your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie or to block cookies. This may mean that the website does not function optimally. For more information about cookie settings and specific browsers, it is best to consult your web browser’s help function.
